Spanish courses for self learning?

I am looking for a really good Spanish course that I can learn along with my 3 children (aged 11.12.13) that will be interesting and fun. We want to learn the language fully, not just phrases.

Rosetta Stone…………………..

i'm 15 and I used Rosetta Stone to learn Spanish. it was fun and i'm almost fluent now =D

also the U.S. Army uses this program for their translators.

it teaches you like a little kid. it starts simple with "el nino" (with accent mark) for the boy and you test out then more on the next lesson.

suerte

I used to learn with Linguaphone, both French and Spanish. They're quite good, using textbooks and casettes (possibly CD's in this day and age). I bought mine quite some time ago but you can read up on them at http://www.linguaphone.co.uk

Language courses on the BBC are, I think, unbeatable - log in and see what is available. But the best book I ever came across was an American book with I believe a Kangaroo motif (as Penquin in England). There was not a word of English in it and it was all sketches and text which you worked out for yourself yet it was very easy to do. A Spanish friend of mine gave it to me in the late fifties but I foolishly gave it him back when he wanted me to keep it. I remember the book was not for sale outside the USA so I guess he bought it there.

The site http://www.studyspanish.com/ has a CD course that you can buy, although I don't know how well it works, I haven't tried it. If you don't want to buy anything, there is a wealth of information on that site about grammar, pronunciation, etc. There are pages about vocabulary, verb tenses and moods, expressions, etc. and mini quizzes at the end. There is also a a section detailing the pronunciation of the different letters and diphthongs as well as audio pronunciations. The site also has useful links and cultural notes. I highly suggest you take a look.

Another site worth mentioning is http://www.forodeespanol.com, a forum for people who are learning Spanish. It is a great place to visit if you are confused about something, and there are native speakers and students alike.

And also, there is the site http://www.spanishpronto.com/spanishpronto/ which has some information about vocabulary, the alphabet, etc. and there are some interesting resources as well.

    Buena suerte :) (good luck)

All language courses promise much but you will never get to the end of the tunnel if you don't practice the language… The moment you stop using the language, you will forget everything you have learned. Depending on where you live, dealing with Spanish speaking people shall be the most effective way to get to learn the language. I speak English and Spanish, and it might be different because I got the Spanish language from my parents since I was born and I had to learn English, but it only took me 2 years to deeply understand the English language. It all depends on your desire to learn and the way you are planning to use the language. Some people are just mad about the fact that Latin people are so effusive and they don't care much if they are speaking Spanish in front of a crowd that just doesn't understand what they are saying… others just learn it in order to survive among them… and by the way, the best way to learn Spanish in on "survival mode" if you know what I'm speaking about. If you don't need to learn Spanish, it's just a waste of money.
