How difficult is it to learn conversational Spanish? And long does it take to become proficient?
I’m planning on taking elementary Spanish courses at a local community college.

Pick one and watch it a couple of times a week. I don’t recommend the news shows, as the talk Really fast. Actually (Español es muy facil) its very easy to learn Spanish, its easier than other european language. You can learn at your own pace without enrolling in very expensive courses, all it takes is (1)some time to devote to learning like 3-4 hours a day (2) a learning tool with a good outline, a good book (3) online learning resource there as so many of them like studyspanish.com podcast. (4) practice practice practice (in daily situations) and develop your listening skills.
